I started getting a wet passenger's side floor this winter. Upon pulling up the carpet I found quite a puddle. Nice fresh water and no rust. Vacumned it out, dried everything and put it back together. Problem repeated upon next rain. Repeated the process but left out the padding and left the door sill and side panel trim off for easy access (I'm learning). Careful inspection reveals that water is not coming from ductwork or anywhere else under dash. In fact, it appears first on the door sill, just inside the seam at the front of the door. That spot gets wet after a rain, even with no driving invloved. If I wipe it off, nothing else gets wet. I don't see anything above dripping or any sign of wetness on the side padding, carpet, wiring, etc. It's as though it seeps up through the metal (not likely - remember I said it appears even if I don't drive in in the rain.
So, looking at the door I discover wetness at the bottom-front fabric trim bead where it curves around under the pouch. It appears water is getting past the weatherstripping or inside the door. However, all this is outside the seam over which the door sill caps, so even if the door is leaking, it shouldn't cross into the interior. I think that 1/2" tall seam is too great for the capilary action of water to cross. What else?
