I had a similar problem recently. I had a hard thumping sound under acceleration. It ended up being the inner CV, as most non saab folks would call it. The tripod bearing. passenger side. In my case the inner driver ( a cup shaped piece with a shaft on one end that goes in to the transmission) was worn, and I had to replace that as well.
Jack the car up and see if you can shake the drive axle. Mine moved a good quarter of an inch when I grabbed it and yanked back and forth on it.
I ended up replacing the entire drive axle, which isn't that expensive. My total parts list included the o-ring for the inner driver, the differential bearing, the inner driver, and the drive axle. The inner driver is expensive. Also of note, a local parts guy quoted me a price of about $60 cheaper on teh inner driver then what the part is listed for on E euoroparts.com. So I ordered everything thru him. So, for a $2 oring, I paid $9. For a $89 drive axle I paid $129, and for a $25 dollar differential bearing (if I remember correctly) I paid $35. Then to top it all off, he couldn't get me the inner driver. So to make a long story short, if you don't have a parts guy you totally trust, go with E-europarts. And finally, you're from the Twin Cities eh? Getting ready for the Sage Rosenfells era? I haven't been able to locate a jersey yet (I"m saying this toungue in cheek) Good Luck
