You lost one of them for sure, but it may have been just the slave.
If the slave goes sometimes the master won't return and you'll get the floppy pedal. I just had to do that and pull the master out to make sure it was working.
You do have a problem since you wont be able to push in the clutch to get the spacer ring in. Someone on the board used a grease gun to get it to go in. Not exactly sure how he did it, but it was within the last few months.
Saab did make a tool for it.
Take a good look at those o-rings for the slave and make sure they aren't twisted. On new slaves I pull them out to make sure they haven't rolled. The o-ring will tear very early (less than a year was the last one). I got new slave and had to put new o-rings in it because the ones it came with were bad.
O'Reilly auto parts should have the correct o-ring, all the other stores around me didn't have the correct ones. It's little red box of o-rings, but there are sure a tons of them in there.
