...I can't seem to find "the" car, something to have for the next 20 years. I don't expect something perfect but I don't want a major project either. There are a few of them are out there and I've missed a couple recently but I seem to come across plenty (relatively speaking) of candidates that are either turbos w/ automatics or non-turbo 5 speeds. Yeah, I know a tranny swap qualifies as a project but assuming everything else is in line it's a one shot deal. And what's with all the convertibles being practically given away?
There have been a number of red SPGs recently but they've either been too expensive ($7k is out of my range) or they're projects and I can't see projects ever being worth it. $5k disappears pretty quickly especially if you need a paint job so even if you got a car for free it could end up being a loss.
I just came across THE car...almost. Low miles, garaged, never seen snow, black, not a scratch on it, spotless interior -- dash isn't even cracked. If it was a 5 speed I would have bought it twice but between buying it (no prob), shipping it across the country (minor prob) and swapping the tranny (sizable prob) it doesn't seem worth it. I *could* drive it with the automatic for a while (ick) and work on swapping it in the future and I just may do that.
BTW I prefer no sunroof because I'm tall and I'd rather have the headroom.
Anyway, I'm just babbling/whining...although I just may have realized something. If I'm looking for something to have for 20 years then why the heck not get the automatic and swap it when I'm good and ready? But OMG do I have those transmissions...
