Possible for shocks to leak?

This is the strangest thing, '89 SPG with koni adjustable shocks and Intrax springs installed 5 years ago. Several weeks ago I noticed a puddle under the left rear. The rear brake calipers are new oem with ss brake lines. I jacked up the car and crawled underneath and the rear shock was wet. I thought i'd find a pin hole in the hard line dribbling down to the lower shock mount, but no. Brake caliper and hard line are completey dry. The shock body was wet with what seemed to be brake fluid or the consistency of brake fluid. I cleaned off the shock and did not drive the car for five days. Underneath the shock is wet again. I thought these shocks were gas filled? Is there liquid inside these shocks? I've had the same set of shocks on another car for 10 years and no problems. My brake reservoir is full of fluid. Any ideas?
Thanks.
Cliff
