Sentiments aside, a case (no pun intended) can easily be made to fix it up purely on the economics of it. Obviously you have had the car for a while and know exactly what and how much you'd need to send in the next 6 months or one year. Buying another Saab, unless it has all the repair and replacement records, does present an unknown. How much of an unknown is too much? Well, start with the $2500 for a rebuilt tansmission, deduct your new clutch and new leather; now you have a real reference point to measure against the unknown. Besides, as you have pointed out, the original transmission is getting there too. How much longer?
Rebuild.
