I guess it depends on the collision. Compared to a modern Saab, especially side impact, of course not. Compared to some cars on the road, absolutely. My brother flipped my parent's 89 and everyone was unhurt. A high school friend was recently killed in an almost identical accident in a newer vehicle because the roof collapsed. Roof standards are only now starting to improve, and a typical American car still has a weaker roof than a C900.
Most modern cars primarily rely on airbags to meet standards. I bet a c900 with side curtain airbags would compare pretty decently in modern tests...
C900 still fares pretty well in the Folksam reports... and our insurance company pointed out that its rated 4/5 (whereas a Neon is 1/5) for safety (based on real world data). That is why a C900 is so damn cheap to insure! The other cars are just finally catching up because iihs testing has forced them to...
