There's also a filter inside the trans that needs to be changed (probably wasn't). Of course the other question is if it has the right fluid--hopefully so. How far have you driven it like this? Usually the way these go is that it won't shift into second when it's cold, but after it warms up it'll shift normally. If that's the case then it could drive like that for some time. If it's gone beyond that stage there're a few things you can do, but odds are you'll be looking at a new trans. There is some adjustment on the shifter itself but you'll need to find someone who realy knows classic Saabs well. You can have the governor taken off (it's inside the trans) and cleaned(by a classic Saab specialist only), which some times works (it didn't on my car). If it isn't the end, it's certainly the begining of the end. Let us know what happens--good luck.
