Hi,
I’ve been meaning to post this info regarding my broken control arm incident. For background see these posts:
http://www.saabnet.com/tsn/bb/900/index.html?bID=384563
http://www.saabnet.com/tsn/bb/900/index.html?bID=384846
Now, how did I remove and then install the lower control arm bushings? With all of your [posting] help of course!
Here’s how:
First, the old bushings stayed in the brackets so I burned them out with a small lightweight propane torch by heating up the metal ring in the center of the bushings for a few minutes. Once the inner bushing ring came out it was a cinch to remove the rubber. Next, I cleaned up the brackets with oil and then lacquer thinner.
Installing the new bushings was quite easy. I purchased an all-thread (needs to fit in the bushing semi-snuggly), 2 bolts, and four large washers. I lubed the rubber bushings with liquid soap in order to press them in.
See the attached photograph, as I hope that it ‘describes’ the process.
Best,
Jason
