Fuel Pump Question, Update Posted by bert [Email] (#365) [Profile/Gallery] (more from bert) on Wed, 27 May 2009 08:13:10 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
Here is an update to my fuel pump removal quest.
After receiving a couple of useful tips here on this site I started to pull out the fuel pump on my '91 900 S Conv. After loosening the yellow retainer, that sits on top of the fuel pump (holds the check and return valve in place, since they are just pressed in) it was rather easy to get both valves out without breaking them. However I was not able to loosen the actual ring, without the special tool.
I know want to order it, otherwise I can't move on. Since my car still stalls on right turns and now even when it starts up, every once in a while. I wonder if it is the fuel pump. I believe that the remains of my old fuel level sender are the cause of my problem. When looking at a photo of the entire pump assembly, I see a floating device on the bottom. That looks to me like a shut off mechanism, so that the pump is not running when the tank is empty. My thesis is that the floating springs/wires in the tank pull it up or so and that the pump shuts off. Can anybody confirm this? Any experience with it or do you know what the floater is actual for or doing???
