Replacing the '79 b-engine c900 with a 16-valve??? Posted by BAAB [Email] ![]() ![]() ![]() |
The plan was to keep the '79 900 GLE 5-door's drive train all original, but the machine shop is telling me that $700 worth of machine work needs to be done to the engine - BUMMER. I was really hoping that the original b-engine wouldn't need too much and then I could keep it all original and easy, but now I am thinking about other options.
I have a '90 900s that has been hit beyond repair. It runs really good, but it has 220k on the engine, so.....
Could I use the 16 valve engine from my '90 in the '79 without too much crazy mods, and a ton of additional work? Basically, what would it take to get that to work? Also, I would like to leave the original automatic (yes, automatic) transmission in the '79 as all my other classic/vintage Saabs are manuals and I would like this one to be my automatic Saab for those times I'm in more of a lazy driving mood :-) What bits do I need to move over from my '90 to my '79 for this to work?
And by the way, I already know that I am crazy. I just love the 5-door c900's and I would like to drive it for many years ahead. It is amazingly clean.
Thanks!
