First off, thanks Simon and dr fall. I really appreciate the advice here. So, I got her to start right up this morning. Although I'm thinking I may pay for my lowering of the guard. ALL I DID was take the distro cap off and disco the wire that leads to the ignition coil (so I could move it out of the way). then I just took a rag to the cap and top of the distro to clean the tiny bit of oil off (none on the fry pan). I also carefully checked the three wires that connect to the hall sensor plug. they all seemed uniformly connected (thanks for the tip). after reassembling, I wrapped another wire around the distro to secure the HS plug to the hole. I haven't glued it because I'm afraid I'd just have to pull it off again if it acts up. because I actually did very little to "fix" this, I'm afraid it'll come up again.
QUESTION 1-is the wire sufficient so long as the plug doesn't move? or should I go ahead and glue it?
QUESTION 2- The tiny bit of oil.. is that issue enough that I should act to fix it or is it typical? There is no oil leaking outside of the distro, just a bit around the lower part of the cap, not around the rotor or top of the cap.
QUESTION 3-To try and properly fix the problem and rid myself of hall sensor troubles forever (ha ha), should I buy that $26 replacement sensor part (honeywell 4AV16F) that's mentioned on other posts-assuming there's a fault on the other end of the wiring? I've never opened up the distro and am a bit gun shy with all the talk of it being a sensitive procedure. Or is there a better solution? I'm assuming a new distro is pretty pricey.
Thanks again guys. I've looked at this site for years but have never posted. As soon as I get the 50 bucks saved up, I'm officially supporting TSN. It's too valuable of a resource not to.
