John! to make align the cap and replacing the wires correctly, there's a small notch on the inside of the dist. cap that fits into the cut-out notch on the dist. relate the cap wires to this notch. Find the notch on the new cap and connect each wire to it as you see them on the old cap in relation to its notch/wire location. Then place the cap onto the distributor. If you old rotor doesn't pull off easily, just use pliers and squeeze the old rotor until it cracks off. The factory glues them in-place, but I'm sure the rotor isn't the factory original due to the age/year of your car.
