Don, a car is a gizmo the asks for a fire or explosion. Just like propane torch. Or a bottle of vodka. Or even old dirty oily rag. Are you aware that oily greasy rag can go into fire just itself? Or that brake fluid (that must be replaced every two years) is flammable? Ok, much easier question - do you secure your car with wheel stops and use your jack only to lift the car up and down and fix the car in the raised position with proper stands?
Obviously there must be some certain and obvious precautionary measures to be carried out when you deal with gasoline: open air, no smoking, unexpired fire extinguisher (or even two of them), etc.
Zig
P.S.
Just in case: (body) paint shouldn't be cleaned with gasoline cause gas eats paint. Also some rubber parts suffer from gasoline.
Long story short - if you don't know that it's quite flammable and don't know what to do once it goes in fire - don't even try. But if you do know what this all is about, then you're clear to go. That's it.
