seat swap: 9-3 seats in a C900 Convertible Posted by Daven [Email] ![]() ![]() |
I'm doing a basic restoration of a newly acquired black 5spd '89 900 turbo convertible and the tan front seats are shot: every seam is ripped and the leather itself is kinda dry and hard. I have a set of beige '93 convertible power seats with decent leather covers but they've got sagging cushions and half their motors or gears or cables don't seem to work properly. I may recover the '89 manually adjustable seats with the beige covers but don't particularly like the color. This got me thinking...
For a fraction of the cost of new or even used C900 leather seat covers (grey or tan) I could get a pair of 9-3 front seats from a coupe or convertible model years '99-'02 or possibly '03-'05. I see them on eBay all the time selling for around $100-$250.
I have a shop with a all the basic tools for drilling, bending, cutting metal and have access to a welder. It can't be much more than a little custom fabrication, taking into account ride height and building a custom rail to mount the seat. After that, just some simple cutting/splicing of the wiring harness right?
Anyone else done this?
