So the local indy mechanic was really proud of the "new" A/C system he put in my 88 'vert back in the Spring. It was great until one of the hoses wasn't secured and it lost all it's freon, no problem, he recharged it and blew cold. Whenever the clutch would engage it would whir/whine but it was whirring away no problem. I drove 1400 miles this week and around mile 800 it stopped whirring - and stopped getting cold... The fuse looks good so maybe someone can tell me how to test the system to determine if it's the compressor or some other element of the system ?
I also noticed a spray pattern on my passenger side front wheel as though something liquid/gaseous blew out from the engine bay and through the wheel spokes - it may or may not be related.
I also understand that an 8v compressor is different from a 16v compressor ?
I'm also losing 1/2 gallon coolant per 200 miles but don't see any points of leakage so I assume its burning off before it drips.
TIA
