I can't recall if that beltline trim (just below the fold in the door, quarter panels and at the top of the fenders, right? was actually factory. I've seen cars with it, and without it.
personally, if you don't have any holes drilled along that line for a molding, I'd leave it off. It looks just fine like that.
But, if you were going to put one on, a contrasting color to the one on the car would be very nice, IMO.
One of the moldings that was very popular in the early 80s in NJ at least, was this system that used a metal channel attached to the fender with pop rivets, plastic end pieces, and a rubbery insert. On some cars, it looked fine (always in black), but on one friend's 900, the rubber stuff kept growing, no matter how often he trimmed it!. years later I saw the same mounting system being used on some bling lighting for a car. Wild...
