Hans and others,
I got a new mast from Eeroparts and it worked perfect right out of the package. The extra length of gear is no problem because the system will compinsate for it. You just have to cycle the power on and off until the complete mast is pulled in. As far as the brass part etc and being to big in diameter. I found that I was trying to put it together with the old part still inside the tube. (Mine was broke off) after I got that old piece out it went right together. I drilled mine out. I would suggest you take the motor assembly out of the car and put new grease in there where all the gears are etc. Pretty easy if you just go slow and don't loose anything. Mine was starting to corrode from water running thru it. Also make sure the drain tube goes to the body drain not just to the fender well.
Good luck.
