After looking at one of the two partly disassembled and assembled verts. I see that the pivoted short arm can be mounted two different ways and it should be vertical and below the mount point , then it folds a different way and misses the frame of the top. All is in and working BUT as often occurs there is a small 1/2 inch inperfection in the top (cut) I see it is actually caused by a work hardening of the rubber backing on the top, I can see a fold line exactly 5 inches aft of the first cross bow (not the one over the windshield) and 6 1/2 inches forward of the 1st cross bow there is anothe faint sign of a fold line. It is here the tops I have had fail first. I have used Marine goop coated to a 4x4 piece of the old top material on the obvious cut, and hope to get 1-2 years from the "new top" before I actually replace the top material. Hopefully now I won't have a forth episode where I have to remove one or both seats and dry out the carpet and under padding. Maybe on to a head gasket or seat sew, or head liner , or anothe rtrans fluid 30,000 service, or the squelling Crank shaft pulley, or finishing an interior seat cover color change , removing Ricks engine and trans he bought, Oh I am startting to sound a LOT like BOB.
