Lack of Boost, Lack of Power - not running APC Posted by Daryle [Email] ![]() ![]() ![]() |
Ok, this one is probably fairly simple but I am stumped. 89 turbo in an 86 body. I've searched the board for like symptoms, and while there are many, I've gone through all the causes with my 900 and can't seem to nail it.
Here is the situation: boost gauge only mid yellow, idle is fine nothing erratic, when accelerating and shifting, the car lacks power like it is fuel starved - bucks, stumbles, sounds like a VW beetle (the old ones). Turbo is spooling fine, from what I can here.
All vac lines are new silicone
New BPV
New hoses to/from BPV
New fuel injectors
New plugs, gapped correctly
New fuel pump and prepump 4 years ago
AIC is new
Is the turbo shot? When I was changing out the rubber piping from BPV to turbo, the elbow, I did spin the turbo shaft, spun freely. Wastegate actuator? I will need to let it cool down under there to check, but at first glance, the cotter pin and shaft are intact.
There is no cat on this car, it's got a free flow exhaust system and does backfire on occasion. I do hear a sucking sound at times and like I said, it sounds like an old VW.
Any thoughts are appreciated.
Thanks,
Daryle
