Hi Tib,
I just worked on this on my 900. On a 5-speed there is cruise control cut off switch for the break pedal and also for the clutch pedal. To look at the cruise control set up under the bolster, I unscrewed the cruise control unit (two screws) that is also next to the wiper relay. Then I bent the plastic vent towards to right side of the car. That cleared things up so I could push wires to the side and get a better view. Follow the vacuum lines and you can't miss the cut off switches near the pedals. I got my cruise working by fixing the vacuum lines -- I cut off the bad ends to the vacuum hose and reconnected them. Later I replaced both switches because the cruise still had a vacuum leak. My 20 year old switches were the screw-in type but their replacements were the clip-in. I removed the metal circle piece and the clip ins easily fit in there. Since I had a newer turn signal and the 1988 cruise control, I also needed to permanently unplug the cruise control relay and splice a couple of the relay plug-in wires together. It was relatively easy. There's a Townsend site that maps this out.
