Rough Idle may cause engine to stall

My car idles inconsistently. Sometimes it idles at 750 strong. But more often it is dipping between 750 and 500 in a rough idle. While it dips, it sounds like its going to stall and shut down. It hasnt shut down yet, but i know in my soul that it will...soon enough.

What can be done to set the idle so that it always idles at 750. Isn't there a method to control the idle, or this a sign of engine failure or something else major. I'm not a fix-it-yourself kind of guy, but i also don't want my recently purchased 89 C900 Turbo Vert to shut down. Like everybody else, I want it to purr and burble like the ingenious Swedes intended.

Any ideas on what is going on with the car. The engine and transmission seem to perform great when my foot is on the pedal, but the idle needs help.
