Nothing special, just hook it up by clipping the 2 pieces back together and push it back in. Install the retaining bolt and done deal. The spring sheath shouldn't be in the way as the transmission will be in park and the hooked stud should be sticking out. If not you should be able to hook it to connect. There is a bit of room there, though hard to see under the car laying on your back.
Somehow the spring resets itself. I don't actually understand how it works, but it does. I've only done this once so...
I've heard from others there is not usually a problem, but the adjustment, if wrong, can cause problems. My guess if the problems would be fixable by just adjusting the shifter and getting park and first right.
It might need a new oring and also an adjustment. If it's the same transmission it shouldn't need an adjustment, but be aware that it might if you do a new cable or mess with the shifter at all.
