I am working on a 1985 turbo, or at least I think it is. It's manufacture date is 3/85 but I don't see the VIN matching the vehicle ID information on this site. I was tracking down an idle problem and found the charcoal canister does not match the description in the Bently manual. The canister has a single vacuum port and a single point for the vent line from the gas tank. Thre is no vacuum operated valve, there is only one vacuum line running to the canister and there are no open ports on the intake manifold. Questions:
Did someone previously remove a valve that goes on top of the canister?
Even though the car is tagged as 3/85 production date, could this canister be OK anyway because it is part of a previous generation system?
Should I be able to draw a vacuum on the line running to the tank from the canister? I can not but after trying to and then opening the gas cap there is defintely a vacuum there.
Note that plugging the vacuum line to the canister didn't effect the idle and that there is little vacuum present until the engine is rev'ed up over 2000 RPM.
