I have removed the dash fascia as well as the dash pad with the steering wheel in place. You may have to work the dash pad out by being creative. That said, it is a lot easier with the wheel off. I have taken the airbag out after disconnecting the battery for >30 minutes, then removing the 2 torx screws that hold the airbag on (in back of the wheel), then disconnecting the airbag wire. I had no problems. After that, there is a large nut holding the wheel on, I think it is 25 mm, but do a search to be sure. Once the nut is off, the wheel comes off with a tug.
