Check your battery connections, your ground connections (on the chassis and on the transmission cover), the bolts holding the starter on, etc.
The starter is energized via a solenoid which is piggybacked on the starter. A small wire provides the power to energize the solenoid, and the solenoid pulls the starter teeth into the flywheel, and makes the high-current contact between the battery and the starter motor. Sometimes, the solenoids go bad, or the copper disc that makes the high-current connection is highly corroded. Sometimes you can remove the solenoid from the starter (no idea if you can do this in the chassis, but I wouldn't recommend it), take it apart, flip the copper disc, and you're good to go another 20 years. Or you can replace the solenoid by itself.
