LH 2.2 fuel pump in CIS 83 Turbo Posted by Cam [Email] ![]() ![]() |
I posted this question a while back, asking whether the fuel pump from my parted out 87 900S (LH 2.2) would replace the one originally in my 83 900T (CIS). Short answer is: yes.
Bentley manual states that properly operating CIS requires the line (system)pressure to be between 5.1 and 5.8 bar /74-84 PSI for a turbo engine (4.5-5.2/65-75 psi, non turbo). After modifying the pump's wiring harness as required, and installing the new pump and setting up my fuel pressure gauge, I measured ~77 psi. (Gauge set up to measure pressure flowing from fuel distributor to warm up regulator, valve on gauge assembly closed) Car started and ran great - proper vacuum, idle and throttle response and normal boost. Fwiw, car is essentially stock.
Thanks to Justin VanAbraham, Oldsaab and others for the advice earlier. As Justin VanAbraham noted, due to the geometry of the tank and pump, with this setup, when the fuel light goes on, you are *out* of gas - not low, out.
I hope someone finds this post helpful in the future.
