87 SPG i had bad gas smell in cabin after car parked, checked around the fuel pump and sender etc couldnt find anything.
Turns out the ELCD valve was shot, so gas tank fumes found their way into the intake manifold via the thin signal line and then into the cabin (i must have some tiny leak of vacuum line into the cabin).
Fix was to put a one-way valve on the thin signal line from ELCD to Intake Manifold (allowing suck but not blow-back when turbo is boosting).
solved it!
so check your ELCD is working correctly before you replace a gas tank!
