flow through heater core

Is the flow through the heater core not only in 900s but any model supposed to be kind of slow on the exit side or might I have a blockage? Im worried I might do damage if I put a garden hose on both side and flush it in both directions. Seems to me that a slow exit means hot coolant will stay in the core longer?
