can you harshly rev it up on neutral gear?

If you can do anything you want with the engine having clutch pedal in the floor or gear selector in the N position and problems occur only under real load and you're sure about you AMM and vacuum and other components then I'd suspect the ground cable (that runs from batt to tranny case) that can be worn or not properly secured. It also may be any other wire that deals with fuel or injection but that primary thick ground wire just comes first to me.
