Well, engine can die when hitting brakes in two cases:
- electrical (bad ground to fuel pump)
- air-leak (if vacuum-boosted brakes)

Since this is CE then I take your brakes to be MarkII so there's no vacuum booster. So you'd check the ground point in the rear-end (try a quick search on this chat; there were some posts within last month or even two weeks).

Car dies when turning AC on...
What happens when one turns AC on on his car? There's an additional load to engine, electrical load to underhood wiring loom and heat stroke. So you'd check AIC valve that is to compensate increased load, check ground points and connections and air intake (filter itself and where you're getting fresh air if you modd'ed your intake).
