Um, not exactly... Posted by Larry West [Email] ![]() ![]() ![]() In Reply to: Re: Fuel Injector Firing, derf :-), Thu, 22 Oct 2009 08:56:01 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
Electrical/electronic injection systems with electrically-operated injectors fire their injectors one of two ways (assuming one or more injectors per cylinder):
"Bank" fire: all injectors on the motor, or all injectors on a single cylinder bank (in the case of a "V" motor, where the inlet/exhaust timing allows) fire at once. Bosch LH works like this, as do many other systems from the same time frame.
"Sequential" fire: each injector is fired independently of all the others, presumably in the same order as the plugs fire, and timed for optimal fuel entry into the cylinder. Most, if not all, current systems are of this type.
The advantage to the latter is finer control of the fuel, potentially down to the individual cylinder. Of course, this also takes a more complex ECU, with more complex programming, so it follows that as electronics became cheaper and more powerful, the bank fire systems gave way to the sequential fire.
