there is a slight risk because as a wire ages the sheath covering a single wire begins to harden and after more time becomes brittle and tends to just crack an fall off the wire leaving it exposed to the elements.
there is no problem with a naked wire not covered by a sheath except when someone wants to create hurricane force wind on it or around it.
pulling the battery cable is one way to insure nothing will short out.
after the battery is disconnected blast away, try not to aim at the battery with the power washer.
i should mention another problem. aging wires that has lost their sheath can completely snap off what ever it is there connected to, because when a female or a male end is crimped onto the wire the crimp in most cases grabs the outer sheath of the wire, and with an aged wire with no sheath left behind the crimp enough force (like a power washer)on the naked wire can slide the wire right out of the crimp leaving the male or female end still pluged in but with no wire running to it, and with so many wires to find which one is at fault after the cleaning, well... it is nothing more than a giant mouse hunt.
im not saying don't clean it, all im saying is dont shoot the wires, fuse box, battery, distributor, and so on.
might i add to ensure no problem arises dont hook the battery up until the motor is dry.
on a side note, i blast my motor also, however i pull up to one of them diy car washes, pop the hood and just blast away, and with it sopping wet ill jump in start it up and drive away. (just steer clear of the wires and you ll be fine)
