HALL SENSOR or ECU?

I don't have spark for my '89 T900, may need to replace the distributer with Hall Sensor. The fuel pump does run; I can hear it when I turn the key. It was stalling out at 1/4 tank so I replaced the main and secondary pump, thinking that was the reason the Saab suddenly quit running.
This happened on one of the hottest days of the Summer while accelerating onto the highway. I began checking the electrical and ignition systems the best I could with limited equipment.
The wires are exposed at the distributer Hall Sensor plug- the plastic boot is broken, but the wires don't seem to be shorting out.
There is no spark as far a I can tell from a spark plug to ground test.
A fellow Saab owner said it could be the ECU because '89's are suspect.
How do I get this rig fired-up?
