Leaking injector

My son who's away at college called me last week because he was getting a strong fuel smell from his '93 900T. He found a leaking injector at the intake. I sent him the tools he needed and all new injector o-rings and pintle caps. When he took the injectors out, two were missing caps. I asked him if they came off when he was removing them. He wasn't sure. He couldn't find them in the intake. He put the new parts on and put things back together, and he still has a leak. He says the gas is percolating up where the injector enters the intake runner. He's two+ hours away, is there anything he can do to possibly seal that up to get home?
On a related note, I'm wondering why he's getting gas percolaton from the intake. Could it be that one of the lost caps is jammed or melted on a valve or seat seat keeping the valve from closing completely and creating excess pressure on the intake side? He says the car sounds and drives fine.
