Fred or Karl or whatever your real name is -- you're talking about "H" motors, but the original poster is talking about "B" motors fitted to 99s and 79-80 900s. A "B" motor is NOT an "H" motor. (The "B" in B201, B202, B212, etc. -- which are all H motors -- stands for "bensin," which is Swedish for gasoline.)
The book that "claims different" is the official Saab factory manual for 1979-1980 B motors, part number 321265.
By the way, you're also wrong about "H" motor 8-valve (a/k/a B201) sodium-filled exhaust valve stem diameter: Saab's H motor manual shows only one dimension for exhaust valve stems and the EPC does not list separate guides for sodium and non-sodium valves. In fact, the Saab specifications manual for 79-84 does not differentiate between B and H motors; you can infer from this that the stem and head diameters are the same. (Incidentally, the book says that sodium exhaust valves were fitted to all fuel-injected B201s.)
