I have an 1988 SPG fitted with 205/50-16 tires on Aero wheels. This gives modest rear wheel rubbing. I also have a 1988 900S doner that I used to drive. On the 900S I had 205/60-15 on standard 15" 900 rims, with no rubbing. According to http://www.miata.net/garage/tirecalc.html the diameter of the 205/50-16 is *smaller* than the 205/60-15 tire by 0.6 inches.

So, is the rubbing with the Aero wheels due to the lower ride height of the SPG compared to the 900S, or is it due to the offset of the Aero wheel that causes the tire to protrude further out of the wheel well?

Does anyone know the actual difference in ride height between the 900S and the 1988 SPG?
