I did neglect to mention unbolting the shock... oops. you may need to raise the unit slightly to get the shock to slip off the mounting post as it's angled down.
get about a 2.5 lb sledge and smack the side of the steering arm where there is a flat spot, it will pop free (take the nut off first), if you are having trouble doing this get a wedge or other block of metal, place it against the target on the steering arm, and then hit the block of metal. Hard. It works and it's the way that the SAAB Master mechanics do it. Then after you have pulled the two upper and two lower ball joint bolts out... you can pull the entire thing out, with the drive shave intact. THEN remove the upper and lower ball joints using a smilar brute force approach, it works. Save the pickle fork for Christmas dinner, as noted it tears up the rubber and ruins the ball joint. after you get it all together you can do final tighenting of the bolts with it on the car, I think it's a 19 mm, but have seen 18 mm depending upon brand. Just do this *before* you put the tie rod end back into the steering arm.
