ok, so it sounds then like somthing that is doing it's thing when the engine is cold... and stops doing it when the engine is warm... is to blame.
check that the timing is spot on, also with the timing light in place rev the engine and see if the timing changes - this is an indicator that the vacuum advance is working.
When it's warm and at too high an idle... start unpluging things to see if anything impacts the idle. uplug and then replug and move around the engine bay to see if something either does or *does not* change idle.
Also, check and recheck all of the vacuum lines AND all of the connector boots for the air intake. everyone and everywhere. I had the rubber boot between the turbo and the intake from the AMM (the one where the hooter valve plugs in at a 90) have a crack across the bottom where you could not see it, and it gave odd idle conditions. one day I was taking all of the hoses and connections off to change to an aftermarket bypass valve and there it was... a crack that you could only see when you flexed the hose... replaced it and all was good again.
