I suspect a vacuum leak at the intake manifold. Squirt some WD-40 around the sealing surfaces, gaskets and fuel injector seals. If the rpm's increase, pack the area with thick grease and see if that helps lower the rpm's. The grease buys you time to troubleshoot other leaks. Repeat the WD-40 and grease procedure until you have found all the leaks.
