Try adding some "Marvel Mystery Oil" to the engine oil mix. Cold weather and engine sitting causes lack of oil. With over 200k on the engine, I'm not surpised about this noise. My 91/900s always has tappet noise on each start-up. My 92/900t never has this issue. Both are close to 200k on their engines. Another thing to check would be to add an oil pressure gauge where the oil pressure sensor is and see what the start-up and warm running oil pressure is. IMO, engines that have high mileage and have never been flushed with cleaner, like Rislone, will loosen too much oil funk and cause damage to parts that require only oil splashing as part of their lubrication. This can also lead to a clogged oil screen at the oil pick-up tube. "Valve Medic" is another good product to try. Dump oil after 100-200 miles after this type of treatment. Good Ole Saabs!
