and rollover avoidance , their center of gravity is so high . I drove my friend's a few years ago and I can't imagine what a disaster it would be to attempt to suddenly avoid something at highway speed . It seems to me that a few marketing people have figured out how to take advantage of many Americans' irrational belief that an SUV is a safe vehicle because it is large and gives the driver an unrealistic sense of control from a high seating position and 4 wheel drive . That high seating position also implies a high center of gravity and that 4 wheel drive will do nothing to prevent you from losing control of a vehicle if you turn more sharply than the road conditions will allow in traction . The extra size and weight of the vehicle does actually help in a crash , but a vehicle dos not have to be an SUV to to have a good amount of weight to it . Besides this the extra weight combined with a high bumper is like a death sentence to anyone in a non SUV hit broadside or a pedestrian . At least if an SUV or minivan is going to be purchased something like a Honda makes more sense due to there excellent safety and reliability record . Honda seems to do a good job with engineering in everything they build . If they built a car that was set up like an spg I'd buy it in an instant . Landrovers are most likely a nightmare when it comes to repairs . They would probably make a c900 look fantastic when you compare the availability of affordable parts and reasonably priced labor . Even DIY would be tough because of the parts . I hope some of these comments don't sound to harsh to you , but it is frustrating seeing so many SUV's on the roads knowing that probably about 20% of them are the right vehicle for the way they are being used and a few cooperate fat cats are making tons of money off the misconceptions that they are happy to take advantage of often at the expense of peoples safety and financial well being .
