We have a 1999 Dodge Intrepid with the oil sludge master 2.7L engine in it. These engines can go at anytime, any mileage due to their sludge problems. When I learned of the inherent design flaws of this engine and Chrysler's refusal to stand behind it, I switched to fully synthetic oil at 50K miles and changed it every 3000 miles since that's the only chance they have of survival. About two weeks ago, it popped at 108K miles. I pulled the timing chain cover and found a fairly clean engine for the mileage. Then I pulled the valve covers and found a broken valve spring and parts of the rocker arm laying next to it. What a bummer after all of those expensive oil changes.
Just look on craigslist, it seems like every other Intrepid with a 2.7L engine is blown. It's no wonder the Chrysler company is broke.
