Well, there is at least a 25 HP difference (160 vs 135) between the turbo 8 & turbo 16/intercooled. Some SPGs may have a larger difference.

But, the turbo "fun" factor is definitely still there.

Other differences to note:

8vs in the US did NOT come with sway bars. They're easily fittable, though.

8vs did not have ventilated front disc brakes, until the wheel change in 1988 (and I can't recall at the moment if the US got any 8v 88s at all...). Again, you can convert this over, by finding the parts from a later 16v turbo.

Those are the major differences you'll find. As for looking at a car, the usual still applies. Same rust spots to watch out for, same interior ailments (headliner).
