1988 Saab 900s, 16V, 5spd, 175.5K miles.
I know alot of you guys buy your Saab parts from Rockauto who sells Cloyes engine parts like timing gears, chains and tensioners.
To make a long story short, I'm having a broken valve spring repaired(were doing all 24) on my wife's Dodge Intrepid 2.7L 24V, which is the worst engine on the planet and known for oil sludging themselves to death. Nevertheless, the engine is clean as a whistle since I routinely changed the oil every 3K with fully synthetic oil. These engines sludge themselves to death if you don't change it this aggessively.
While we're in there, I want to replace the timing chain, tensioner and water pump since tensioner problems and water pump failures were also known to wipe out these 2.7 engines in addition to oil sludge problems.
You guys who have experience with Cloyes internal engine parts, are they durable long term substitutes for OEM? Our Dodge Intrepid 2.7L has 108K on it and the car is in excellent condition but the Chrysler/Mopar OEM parts are way too expensive to fix it! The price of the Cloyes aftermarket brings it right into a range that I can live with.
Thanks for your help and input!!
