update on alternator

Well yesterday my dad and I removed the alternator after trying several troubleshooting steps. Thank you guys for all the tips. The guys at Autozone tested the alternator and it failed, although I don't know enough to know whether it was the whole alternator or just the voltage regulator. Anyway, I got a rebuilt alternator and will put that in next week.
But holy cow was it a pain to take the alternator out! This was my first time actually working on the car--I couldn't believe how tight it is in there. What's the deal with the bolt on which the alternator pivots--it seems like you can remove it towards the rear of the car, but it bumped into the firewall, but there was an indentation in the firewall for it, but it didn't go back far enough. The darn thing was hung up on that bolt for a half hour when I thought we were all done. It took us a long time to get it out and I'm a little nervous about getting the new one in there....
Also--while I have it out, should I automatically replace the two belts that go to it? They didn't look particularly worn, but I don't think they were replaced at the same time. Does it matter to get a "better brand" of belt (autozone had a $5 belt and a $10 belt) --I'm on a fairly limited budget.
Anyone near South Jersey who feels like coming by this weekend to help put that thing in please let me know... :)
thank you again everyone,
Sky P
