Chris,
really happy you save another saab there! :-))

I bet you know better theb me what you've just bought (I mean the headliner, sweaty engine, HV fires taken from some unknown car and such), but can't help giving some comments and advises (remember Flop? Aeroflop? He was 8v turbo '84).

1. Be careful when working in the engine bay in order not to break the injector fuel lines. These bits are hard to find nowadays. Neither Bentley nor Heynes nor Saab factory manual will tell you that.
2. Never seen H-engine with the oil cap on the head cover so far. So I'd suppose that PO (or POs) where there. Since the engine looks sweaty then I'd say that they were not the best mechanics this baby ever seen. Do the valve cover gasket service - I think this baby needs it - and you'll also be able to inspect the head and camshaft condition as well as oil quality the PO used.
3. The fuse box. Though I can be wrong (but I bet I am not) the new design with modern fork-looking fuses was introduced in '84. What happened that caused the POs to swap the fuse box? Yes, this fuse box should be much better then the old one, but you really should double-check that this modification was carried 100% nice and accurate.
4. I don't know whether you're going to keep it 100% stock (stock... see above re valve cover and the fuse box) or not, but if I were you I'd go with APC install (not a big deal at all, really - but this will give you a real and pure SAAB PERFORMANCE) as well as some IC (intercooler) setup (front-mount IC is a nice setup, but it does require some modifications to be done and isn't that easy with AC radiator kept; C900 IC is much easier to install, but I don't really rate that design too much since the air filter housing really block the air passing thru the IC).
5. Old-styled front brakes... But I'm sure it won't be a big deal for you since these had been used up to '88.

The 7th classic nine hundred in your saab fleet. Man, I'm really jealous!

Good luck there,
Zig.

P.S.
Eh... No news for me so far?
