I believe you'll need the CD/EQ unit if you want to use the trunk-mounted CD changer. You don't need to get a SAAB trunk-mounted changer. Any Clarion unit from that era with a C-Bus connection will work. They were used in a bunch of cars. I know VW used the same unit too. I picked mine up cheap on evilbay. Sorry, can't recall the model number.
You also don't need the individual CD function of the in-dash unit to work to use the trunk-mounted changer, as long as the switching function works. These Clarion in-dash units are prone to losing the individual CD playing function. You can pick up failed ones cheap.
The '93 900 and the '94 900 vert uses the same CD/EQ unit as the 9000 from the same time. So if the dealer has that number, it will work.
