2.7 ? Dunno.. I only know enough about 'non truck' Dodges to not own them.
Bent valves? incorrect cam chain timing/setup?
Chain/belt? Could have skipped a tooth leading to the original episode?? [Valves are VERY easy to bend unless it's an interference engine.. is it?. They clatter like crazy once bent, No way of ignoring it.
I once bent All the Intakes on my Alfa Romeo during my botched Chain tension adjust .. turning the engine over by hand using a socket on the crank pulley.. once bent a valve on my Jaguar by stupidly placing a freshly (and expensively) rebuilt by a Jag specialist Cyl head on my work bench.. the weight of the head pressing on the valve edge was apparently enough force. Loud ticking forced me to remove and redo the entire job, a PITA... price of stupidity.
Clearly something was bungled on your motor job. Likely you know that already :-).
Other smal factoid is it's Poor practice to rebuild a Cyl head without redoing the bottom end (brgs, bores, rings etc) as these worn parts don't usually live long under the new loadings from the fresh top end.
