TZ,
actually I've never pinched those fluid lines but always used corks to stop the hole, sorry. But even if you eat the hose with those pinchers then it shouldn't be a big deal to replace it - brake fluid isn't that way aggressive to rubber as gas or oil so I'd say that you can go with any clean hose you find being of the same int diameter. I'd even try a silicone hose there (hmm... white or clear color should look the best there!)
Re the cylinder surface - I used a piece of cotton on a wooden stick to do the cleaning. I'd say that a cylinder is bad and needed to be replaced in the following cases:
- there're any scratches on the surface
- the surface isn't that round as it should be
- there's a definite 'step' that one feels when moves an assembled piston back and forth (n.b.: the holes that feed the cylinder with the fluid from the reservoir can confuse you here if you move the piston too slow)
Long story short I'd say that you most probably need only to replace the spring and change those rubbers (scantech kit worked good for me) after you've cleaned . Sorry I can't help you with the spring advise since I'm here and you're over there, you know. Note that the correct spring should be not of the cylindrical nor of the conical type but smth in between. The best source for the good spring (rather then a new cylinder kit) is most probably the junkyard.
Good luck,
Zig
